Brief Description:
If you are submitting a Microsoft Word file where you have done your own layout, you should be submitting a ready-to print digital file, meaning, your hard copy is “camera ready”. This requires:
-Quality white bond paperAll files should be submitted as a PDF (Portable Document Format).
-Single sided originals
-Notes for blank pages
-Cropmarks should be on the cover or top sheet only on an 81/2 x 11 sheet with notes to final trim size.
If your book has been laid out in Quark, InDesign or PageMaker, you should send the native file with all supporting images & fonts. Please make sure your PDF is unencrypted, unlocked and without any security before sending. For a free download go to www.primopdf.com
If your final size is 5.5 x 8.5 you should not create or “impose” the booklet for two pages on one side of the sheet. Center the image or text on a standard 8.5 x 11 page.
For Color Cover Design
-Scanned black and white images should be 300 dpi grayscale; lack and white art should be 600 dpi bitmap setting.
-Levels on photographs should be set with your white point at 5% avoid highlights and your black point at 95%. Set photos with large dark areas on them at 90%. -Covers should be submitted in Photoshop or TIF format, w/ CMYK settings not RGB.
-Barcodes and placement type that are important parts of the image should be ¼ inch inside the crop marks. You should also allow 1/8 inch bleed outside the trim lines. (Bar-coding available if needed).
-Do not place horizontal or vertical line including photos within a ½ inch of the edge as it will affect trim alignment.
-If you intend to put lettering on the spine and want the title to appear you should have a minimum spine thickness equivalent to 100 pages or 50 sheets. Please note you can not have a color change on a perfect-bound book that is less than 100 pages.
-Because there are color variations when using a digital printer you want to try and stay away from light colors and pastel. Using dark, rich bold, colors and contrast work better.
-Please note the maximum spine thickness for perfect binding is about 700 pages using a 20# and a bit less for 60# please consider this when choosing your paper.
*If there are pages you would like to use a model for your book design please make copies and submit with
the transcript.
**Please note those customers submitting a typed manuscript requiring transcribing and typesetting extra
charges will apply.
You should NOT send the original send a copy only.
